Dear
Poly Flex,
I
first came to hear of Poly Flex through a boat building course at Meadowbank
TAFE North Sydney. Having
completed
the course I set about building a 14' clinker motor/sailor designed by David
Payne called Yellowtail.
The
design is drawn from traditional pleasure boats that used to be available for
hire in many of Australia's
eastern
estuaries.
Traditionally
these pleasure boat were equipped with a single cylinder "put put"
engine bolted to a wooden
frame. This arrangement generated a lot of vibration
in the boat and in building mine I wanted to avoid this.
The
engine I used is a Blaxland Chapman 3.5hp Pup.
At the time I don't think Poly Flex made mounts for such
a
small engine so I used the smallest ones available. The result is that there is simply no
vibration when the
engine
is running. As a bonus the design of the
mounts enabled me to very accurately line up the engine with
the
drive shaft - a very satisfactory outcome.
